Your balance never changes

vATOM is non-rebasing. You keep the same number of tokens; each one becomes redeemable for more ATOM as staking rewards compound. The exchange rate moves, not your balance.

Redeeming takes about 21 days

Unstaking is the Cosmos Hub's unbonding period, not a protocol choice. Requests are batched, undelegated together, and paid out after the chain releases them.

No protocol fee

Fixed at zero basis points, and not adjustable. You still pay network gas, and validators still take their commission.

About to redeem? Read redeeming takes 21 days first. The redemption flow has four stages and the app cannot tell you your exact payout until the third one. That surprises people, so it is worth five minutes.
